SYDNEY – The Qantas Group, Australia's leading airline conglomerate, has unveiled significant changes to its senior executive team. The announcement includes the departure of its Loyalty CEO, Ms. Olivia Wirth, and the appointment of Catherine Walsh as the new Chief People Officer.
End of an Era for Loyalty CEO
Ms. Wirth, who has helmed Qantas Loyalty since 2018, will be stepping down in February 2024. Under her leadership, the airline's Frequent Flyer program, boasting 15 million members, witnessed substantial growth. The program expanded its offerings in hotels, holidays, insurance, and financial services, adding 3 million members and achieving record earnings.
Having served Qantas for 14 years, Ms. Wirth's contributions spanned various senior roles, including Chief Customer Officer and Group Executive for Brand, Marketing, and Corporate Affairs. The process to find her successor as the CEO of Qantas Loyalty will commence soon.
Introducing the Chief People Officer
In alignment with the revised management structure announced in June 2023, Catherine Walsh will assume the role of Chief People Officer, reporting directly to the Group CEO. With 25 years of experience in human resources and industrial relations, Walsh has been instrumental in driving cultural change at firms like Australia Post, Downer, Spotless, and most recently, PWC.
In her new capacity, Walsh will focus on strengthening the bond between Qantas and its 25,000 employees and the unions representing them. As the airline gears up for growth, she will also spearhead the recruitment of thousands of new roles across the Group.

Vanessa Hudson, Qantas Group CEO, expressed her gratitude for Ms. Wirth's invaluable contributions, particularly highlighting her efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
