MONTREAL, September 5, 2023 — Air Canada is gearing up to redefine trans-Atlantic travel with a significant expansion in its international flying schedule for summer 2024. The flagship announcement is the inauguration of a year-round service connecting Montreal and Madrid, a first of its kind, set to commence in May 2024.

Montreal-Madrid: A New Gateway to Europe

The Montreal-Madrid route, the centerpiece of this expansion, offers unparalleled connectivity to leisure and business travelers. Operated with a 255-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the service ensures a comfortable journey across three cabin classes, including the luxurious Signature Class featuring lie-flat seats. Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada emphasized that this route would be the only year-round service between Montreal and the Spanish capital, offering compelling options for travelers.

A Robust Recovery in the Trans-Atlantic Market

Air Canada will operate at 100% of its peak summer 2019 trans-Atlantic capacity in 2024, leveraging the robust recovery witnessed in its largest international market. The airline foresees Europe retaining its popularity among travelers, prompting an expansion to offer more choices and flexibility for holiday planning in 2024.

Leading the Canadian Carrier Across the Atlantic

With 51 routes spanning 30 cities in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and India, Air Canada is the leading Canadian carrier across the Atlantic in the summer of 2024. The airline is committed to further developing the trans-Atlantic footprint of its Toronto and Montreal hubs, which rank third and fifth most significant in North America in terms of average daily trans-Atlantic seats.

A Significant Expansion to Italy

Air Canada is also enhancing its service offerings to Italy, introducing three daily flights from Toronto and Montreal to Rome and daily services to Milan and Venice. This move underscores Italy's pivotal role in Air Canada's global network, establishing it as the largest carrier between Canada and Italy, offering year-round connectivity.

A Culinary Journey with Celebrated Chefs

Travelers on Air Canada's international routes can look forward to a gastronomic delight, with menus curated by a panel of celebrated chefs, including David Hawksworth and Vikram Vij from Vancouver and Montreal's renowned chef Jérôme Ferrer. The culinary experience is complemented by a selection of top wines chosen by leading Canadian sommelier Véronique Rivest.
