Québec City Welcomes First Direct Flight from Seoul, Boosting Tourism and Economic Growth

Québec City, Canada - In a significant development for the aviation and tourism sectors, Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) and Destination Québec cité (DQc) celebrated the arrival of the first batch of Korean tourists from Seoul. This initiative results from a partnership forged with Korean tour operator Hanjin Travel Co., Ltd., announced earlier in May. Over the next few weeks, three more direct flights from Seoul's Incheon International Airport will land at YQB, bringing nearly a thousand additional Korean tourists to the region this autumn.

The inaugural flight, operated by Korean Air and chartered by Hanjin Travel Co., Ltd., was aboard a 260-seat Boeing 777-300ER. Upon arrival, the passengers were greeted by a welcoming delegation, including Québec City's Mayor, Bruno Marchand, and the iconic Bonhomme Carnaval. The festive atmosphere was heightened as local gifts were distributed to the arriving passengers and crew.

Economic Impact and Tourism Boost

The collaboration with Hanjin Travel Co., Ltd. is projected to generate over $1 million in economic benefits for the Québec City area. With each passenger spending an average of three nights in the region, local businesses, especially those in the tourism sector, are set to benefit significantly.

Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO of YQB, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "The arrival of the first flight from Seoul marks the culmination of months of collaborative efforts. This achievement underscores our commitment to fostering growth for the region."

Robert Mercure, Director of Destination Québec cité, highlighted the increasing popularity of Québec City among Korean tourists, especially following the release of the Korean drama "Goblin." Mercure emphasized the potential economic opportunities the influx of South Korean visitors presented, benefiting various sectors, including hotels, restaurants, retail, and tourism services.
