Lufthansa Group Introduces 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel Fare for UN Climate Conference Attendees

In a recent move to promote sustainable travel, the Lufthansa Group has announced a unique fare package for attendees of the UN World Climate Conference COP28 in Dubai. Key Features of the Sustainable Fare Package:

  • 100% Offset of CO2 Emissions: The fare ensures that flight-related CO2 emissions are entirely offset through Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
  • Flexible Travel Options: Passengers can avail of a free rebooking option.
  • Sustainable Mobility in Dubai: A one-week bike rental voucher is included, allowing travelers to explore Dubai and Abu Dhabi on a bicycle.
  • Exclusive for Business Class: Business Class travelers will receive an airport-hotel transfer in an e-limousine.

This special fare is not restricted to any booking class and can be availed until December 10. More details and booking options are available on the Lufthansa website.

Lufthansa Group's Commitment to Sustainability: The Lufthansa Group is not new to sustainability initiatives. The group has set ambitious targets, aiming for a neutral CO2 balance by 2050. By 2030, the goal is to reduce net CO2 emissions by half compared to 2019. These targets, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative in August 2022, align with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, making the Lufthansa Group the first European airline group to have such a science-based CO2 reduction target.

To achieve these goals, the group is focusing on several measures:

  • Accelerated fleet modernization
  • Increased use of SAF
  • Continuous optimization of flight operations
  • Sustainable options for both private travelers and corporate customers

Furthermore, the Lufthansa Group has long supported global climate and weather research.

Note on SAF Usage: SAF is a "drop-in" fuel, meaning it's compatible with fossil fuels and can be blended seamlessly. Before reaching the airport, SAF is mixed with fossil fuel. The Lufthansa Group ensures that the SAF amount used to offset individual CO2 emissions is incorporated into the group's operations within six months of purchase.
