Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has announced its plans to extend operations into China by January 2024. This strategic move aligns with the airline's growth strategy to fortify its global network and enhance Bahrain's connectivity with pivotal global destinations, as outlined in the national Economic Recovery Plan of Bahrain.

The expansion is also a significant stride in strengthening Gulf Air's presence in the Asia-Pacific region, further supporting the connectivity under China's One Belt One Road initiative. The announcement was made at the Bahrain-China Investment Forum, an event orchestrated by the Economic Development Board of Bahrain. The forum witnessed the presence of a special delegation led by H.E. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, the Minister of Industry and Commerce.

Dr. Jeffrey Goh, the Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Air Group Holding, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, "China, with its rapid economic growth and prominence in the global tourism market, is pivotal to our strategy of calibrated network growth. The introduction of flights connecting Bahrain with Guangzhou and Shanghai will not only provide passengers with more choices and flexible travel experiences but also foster trade, tourism, and collaboration between the two nations."

China, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and economic prowess, attracts both leisure and business travelers. With Gulf Air's new routes to Guangzhou and Shanghai, the airline aims to bolster the bilateral trade and tourism relations that have flourished for over three decades.

The flight schedules have been meticulously planned to ensure seamless connections between China and destinations in the Middle East and Europe served by Gulf Air. The airline will deploy the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for these routes, offering passengers a luxurious experience with spacious business class seats and state-of-the-art economy class cabins.
