American Airlines Education Foundation Awards Nearly $1 Million in Scholarships to Students Worldwide

The American Airlines Education Foundation has awarded close to $1 million in scholarship funds to 340 students across eight countries, aiding the dependents of the airline's team members as they pursue higher education. The announcement comes as students gear up to return to classrooms this fall, with the foundation aiming to alleviate the financial burden of higher education.

Scholarship Details

The scholarships are designed to support full-time undergraduate studies at any accredited college, university, or vocational program globally. Each beneficiary has been granted a scholarship of $2,500 for the 2023-2024 academic year. Notably, 100 first-generation college students among the recipients received an additional award of $1,000.

The recipients hail from diverse countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, England, Jamaica, Peru, and Spain. They depend on individuals employed by American Airlines and its wholly-owned carriers, such as Envoy, PSA, and Piedmont, spanning 70 cities worldwide.

Selection Process

The foundation witnessed approximately 1,375 students applying for the scholarship this year. The selection process was competitive, evaluating candidates based on their academic achievements, community service engagements, participation in extracurricular activities, and financial needs.

Ron DeFeo, America’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and President of the Education Foundation, praised this year's recipients for setting ambitious goals and exhibiting a determination to excel in their chosen fields of study. He emphasized the foundation's commitment to supporting team members and their families in achieving significant milestones in their educational journeys.
