This strategic move, announced on December 7, 2023, marks a significant step towards exploring new frontiers in aviation technology and operations in Europe. The collaboration is set to cover various aspects of aviation, including ground and flight operations, maintenance of future aircraft, crewing, flight training, and the development of infrastructure like vertiports and airspace integration.
Dr. Detlef Kayser, a member of the Lufthansa Group's Executive Board responsible for Fleet & Technology, emphasized the group's commitment to innovation and its aspiration to lead the integration of state-of-the-art products and processes in aviation. In addition to this partnership, Lilium has recently started the production of its Lilium Jet, anticipating a substantial demand for around 9,200 eVTOL aircraft in Europe by 2035. The Lufthansa Group, with its fleet of over 700 commercial aircraft, continues to pursue a strategy aimed at cost-efficiency and reduced emissions. The group's latest aircraft acquisitions have shown up to 30% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to predecessor models, aligning with its goal to halve its net carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
