JetBlue Announces the Wind Down of Its Northeast Alliance with American Airlines: What Customers Need to Know

In a significant development in the aviation industry, JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) has announced the forthcoming steps in the wind-down of its Northeast Alliance (NEA) with American Airlines. This collaboration has facilitated seamless travel experiences for countless passengers.

JetBlue expressed disappointment over the termination of widespread benefits such as codesharing and reciprocal loyalty advantages. Dave Fintzen, the Vice President of Northeast Alliance at JetBlue, stated, “We are disappointed to be ending popular benefits like codesharing and reciprocal loyalty benefits. We know customers will miss these features and believe the U.S. Department of Justice’s position opposing them misses the mark.”

Despite the court’s recent ruling and the NEA termination, JetBlue remains committed to minimizing disruptions to existing travel plans and continuing to offer great value along with its award-winning product and service to customers.

Key Dates and Details for Customers

As part of the next phase in the wind-down process, JetBlue and American Airlines have outlined the following steps:

  • July 21, 2023: The last day JetBlue customers can book new codeshare bookings on American Airlines, and vice versa.
  • TrueBlue or AAdvantage Numbers: Customers with existing bookings must add their TrueBlue or AAdvantage numbers before July 21, 2023, to earn points tiles and enjoy reciprocal perks.
  • Accrual of TrueBlue Points: Customers can accrue TrueBlue points for all tickets purchased before July 21, 2023, provided their TrueBlue number is added to the booking before the mentioned date.

JetBlue and American Airlines are working hand in hand to minimize disruptions for customers who have already booked their travel. They assure customers that they can remain confident in their travel plans. JetBlue will reach out personally for any required re-accommodation or refund in case of any individual impacts.

Continued Commitment to Consumer Protection

JetBlue emphasizes its ongoing commitment to working with American Airlines and navigating the legal process to devise a wind-down plan that safeguards consumers’ interests. Customers are encouraged to visit JetBlue’s official website for the most recent updates.
