Delta Air Lines Marks Atlanta Habitat for Humanity's 40th Anniversary with Record-Breaking Home Builds
Atlanta, GA - December 2023 - In a significant community engagement effort, Delta Air Lines celebrated the 40th anniversary of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity by constructing four new homes in 2023, setting a new record in their partnership. This initiative underscores Delta's commitment to community development and affordable housing.
Groundbreaking Effort by Delta Volunteers
Over 1,100 Delta volunteers collaborated with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to break ground on these homes in Browns Mill Village in August, with the dedication ceremonies for all four homes held in October. This project not only marks a milestone in Delta's community involvement but also represents the largest single-year home-building effort by the airline in partnership with Atlanta Habitat.
Delta's Mission and Community Impact
Matt Sparks, S.V.P. of the Operations Customer Center and Operations Analytics at Delta, emphasized the airline's mission to connect the world and communities, fostering understanding and expanding horizons. He expressed pride in partnering with Atlanta Habitat to make homeownership a reality for families in Atlanta.
The THRIVE Challenge and Delta's Role
The homes built by Delta this year are part of Atlanta Habitat’s THRIVE Challenge, a collective effort to positively impact affordable housing in Atlanta. This challenge encourages corporations to sponsor at least one new home build, aiming to add at least 10 additional homes. Alan Ferguson Sr., CEO of Atlanta Habitat, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in addressing socio-economic disparities and barriers to homeownership for working families.
Delta's Longstanding Partnership with Habitat for Humanity
Since their partnership began in 1995, Delta volunteers have helped build or rehabilitate 283 homes across 13 countries with Habitat for Humanity. Delta's involvement is driven by the belief that affordable housing is crucial for strong and stable communities. Over the last five years, Atlanta Habitat has had an estimated $40 million impact on affordable housing in neighborhoods across Atlanta and South Fulton County.
Delta's Continued Community Engagement
This project on "Delta Way," a street named in honor of Delta in 2021 for its steadfast support of Atlanta Habitat, reflects the airline's deep-rooted commitment to community service and development. Delta's ongoing efforts in various community service projects, including this significant contribution to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, demonstrate the airline's dedication to making a positive impact beyond its core aviation business.
