Leading the Industry in Connectivity

American Airlines currently offers high-speed Wi-Fi across 900 aircraft in its fleet, the most extensive coverage in the industry. The airline's commitment to enhancing passenger experience is evident in its earlier achievement of becoming the first airline to offer streaming capabilities on 100% of its mainline fleet. This allowed customers to enjoy video content from their favorite streaming platforms during their flights.

Expanding High-Speed Wi-Fi to Regional Aircraft

The forthcoming expansion will see the installation of new high-speed Wi-Fi capabilities on nearly 500 regional aircraft operated on behalf of American Airlines. This initiative is part of the airline's ongoing efforts to provide a consistent and connected inflight experience to more customers. Once the updates to the regional aircraft are complete, the total number of satellite-connected aircraft in American's fleet is expected to exceed 1,400.

Innovative Connectivity Technology

The expansion will utilize Intelsat’s Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antennae, a cutting-edge technology that is multi-orbit, operating on both Intelsat’s family of geo-stationary satellites and a constellation of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. This technology is designed to provide a low latency, high-speed internet connection, ensuring that regional aircraft can match the fast Wi-Fi speeds currently available on American’s mainline aircraft.

Enhanced Inflight Experience

With the introduction of this new technology, American Airlines aims to offer a seamless and connected experience for customers on all of its connectivity-equipped flights. Passengers will be able to stream, browse, check email, and even log onto VPN while inflight, enhancing the overall travel experience.

American Airlines' initiative to expand high-speed Wi-Fi to its regional fleet marks a significant step in the airline's journey to offer unparalleled connectivity and convenience to its passengers.
