Dubai, 13 November 2023 – In a significant move in the aviation industry, airBaltic is poised to become the largest Airbus A220 customer in Europe. The airline has confirmed an incremental order for an additional 30 A220-300s, bringing its total firm order to 80 aircraft. This announcement was made at an event in Dubai on November 13, 2023.

airBaltic's Growing A220 Fleet

airBaltic, already operating a fleet of 44 A220-300s, is currently the world's largest operator of this aircraft model. The airline's relationship with the Airbus A220-300 began in 2016 when it became the launch customer. In 2020, airBaltic made a strategic decision to refresh its fleet to operate exclusively with the A220-300 type.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, expressed the significance of this day as a milestone in the airline's history. He highlighted the Airbus A220-300's role as the backbone of their operations for nearly seven years, contributing to airBaltic's international success. The A220-300: A Modern Airliner

The Airbus A220-300 is renowned for being the most modern airliner in its size category, capable of carrying 120 to 150 passengers for up to 3,450 nautical miles (6,390 km). It stands out for its 25% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft, and boasts the largest cabin, seats, and windows in its class, ensuring superior passenger comfort.

Airbus' Commitment to Sustainability

All Airbus aircraft, including the A220, can currently operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims to enable all its aircraft to operate with 100% SAF by 2030, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Airbus A220's Global Success

As of October 2023, Airbus has secured nearly 820 orders for the A220 from around 30 customers, with more than 295 delivered, including 50 in 2023 alone. The A220 is already in service with 17 airlines worldwide, covering over 1,350 routes.
