Enhanced Customer Experience with Real-Time Tracking

The new tracking feature in the Air Canada mobile app allows passengers to monitor the progress of their baggage and mobility aids in real time at key points throughout their journey. This development is part of Air Canada's commitment to elevating its service quality by providing customers with real-time information and greater certainty about the movement of their belongings.

Statement from Air Canada's Vice President

Tom Stevens, Vice President of Customer Experience and Operations Strategy at Air Canada, emphasized the airline's focus on delivering a safe, comfortable journey, and the prompt delivery of baggage and mobility aids as top priorities for customers. The introduction of this tracking feature is a step towards further enhancing the airline's service reliability.

App Functionality and Future Expansion

Currently available for domestic flights, the tracking feature uses the same tag scanning information that Air Canada employees utilize at each stage of handling these items. The airline plans to expand this feature to U.S. flights next year and eventually to select international destinations. The app allows customers to track their checked items from check-in through airport handling processes, onto the aircraft, and through connections and arrival.

For customers with mobility aids, the feature provides the added reassurance of confirming that their aid is securely loaded before the aircraft departs. Additionally, the tracker's "What's Next" feature informs customers about the next step for their belongings, including specific details like airport baggage carousel numbers.

Streamlined Process for Delayed Baggage

In the event of delayed baggage, the app not only notifies customers via text or email but also enables them to file a delayed baggage report directly from their smartphone. This functionality streamlines the process and saves time for customers, who can then easily arrange for delivery and receive updates.
